We, as Christians, live in difficult times. Society seems to become more and more fragmented everyday, church attendance is at an all time low, and the media is constantly giving mixed messages and inappropriate ideas to our kids. It seems like more and more people are turning away from the Bible and the Word of God!
What’s really bad about all of this is that we are losing the battle for our young. Politicians use the Bible for whatever political agenda they want to push, and this turns off young people who generally have a more liberal frame of mind.
Now more than ever, we need to get back to basics. We have to set the record straight. Instead of getting confused by all the mixed messages, we just need to open that old family Bible and read the Word of God, right there in black and white.
People Are Turning Away From The Bible And Its Message
You’ve probably seen people who claim to be Christians in the news protesting, holding signs saying that God hates gays, or something like that. Some Christians may see those people as slightly misguided, as people with their hearts in the wrong place. I see them as hurting the church and the Bible, and even worse, perverting God’s Word.
The point is not to argue about whether the Bible says this or the Bible says that. The point is that the Bible is open to interpretation on many political issues today. Instead of listening to a politician’s interpretation to the Bible, we should be reading the text itself.
When so-called Christians attack those who they feel are sinners, they have forgotten something about the fundamental character of God. God loves all of His children, and he will forgive those who repent for their sins. These people must have been sleeping during Sunday school.
God hates the sin, not the sinner. Let’s try to remember that.
Still Wonder Why The Bible Isn’t Popular?
We should be trying to encourage young people to read the Bible and learn God’s Word. We should not be driving them away. I think some Christians forget this, and end up by dividing society into an us-and-them situation.
Young people today are learning from television and mass media that all that’s important in life is money. As far as sex, anything goes. You can do anything you want and not worry about it, because when you die, that’s just the end of things. This is what young people are learning every day from the media.
Now, you can tell your kids they are not allowed to watch TV. You can live up on a mountain somewhere and try to keep them ignorant of everything. Not only does that border on child abuse, but it won’t work. Remember that apple tree God told Adam and Even not to ever touch?
Kids today don’t need less mass media, they just need more of God’s Word in their lives. They just need to know right from wrong, and then they can face any kind of temptation society offers.
So, let’s stop squabbling over someone’s right to do this, or the school’s right to teach that, or what group of people is sinning by doing what. Making society more Godly starts at home, by teaching our kids right from wrong.
It’s simple as taking the bible off the shelve and reading it. The bible teaches us the word of god and how to live a good life.
